Directions: You have now written your first English 121 argument. Now, please answer the following questions: Have you ever written a college paper before? How does this assignment compare? How do you think you will use the skills you learned in Unit II in your future essays (in this class and your future college classes)? Do you have any questions about writing a short argument before we move on? (On this last question, if I get a lot of the same answer, we will review in class, rather than me providing you with an individual answer.)
You can respond in paragraph or list form. 200 word maximum.
Due before 5pm on October 9th.
1 Yes, I completed the summary if that counts.
ReplyDelete2 This one was much more difficult for me.
3 I think in unit II I learned more about citing MLA and understand it a little better. I think that will be important for papers throughout my education.
4 I’m still not sure about the introduction and conclusion. I think my analysis at the end of paragraphs needs some help too.
I have written several college papers before.
ReplyDeleteThis assignment is a little bit different because the majority of papers I have written have been research papers.
I will definitely use the skills I have learned about citations and author tags in other essays. I never realized that I was doing it incorrectly before or not citing things that needed to be cited.
I do not have any more questions.
I have written papers for other classes, but this assignment was different because it had direction. For the most part in other classes we're on our own. I will keep the tools you showed us to guide me through this class and other classes that require writing papers, so I have a some sort of platform. As for questions, If a lot of us are doing the same thing can you go over tips to fix these errors? Maybe some analysis questions we can ask regarding evidence to help us with word count.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I have been to college before, the only paper I remember writing would be the summary from unit I. I found this paper to be much more difficult than the summary. Finding the right thesis and structuring my paragraphs around the thesis were probably the hardest parts for me. I also found difficulty in paraphrasing my thesis again in the conclusion as I wanted to summarize the authors argument instead of my own. Because of the analysis needed in this paper I have found myself thinking in a more critical and academic fashion about almost everything I come across and it's definitely been helpful in that way.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was taking my CNA classes last year I had to write four 8 page essays all in APA format and it was the worst. I had a very hard time with the formatting and trying to come up with enough ideas in order to write the minimum of 8 pages. The only thing that I didn’t like about this assignment was the essay I found it a little challenging to understand and very time consuming. But other than that I like concepts we learned in class. I found them useful when I was writing my paper. I think that I will be able to use the things I learned about commas the most in my other classes. I don’t have any other questions about it.
ReplyDeleteThe first college assignment I wrote was in January of this year. It is amazing that everything I learned prior to this class is now forgotten. The first argument I wrote was about a McDonald’s essay. That essay wasn’t hard to figure out. I understood what the author was a trying to say because the essay was so blunt. The Anzaldua essay was quite bit complex. Her language was hidden in euphemisms and examples that completely through me off. Though I didn’t understand the context at first, I kept reading the essay over and over until it became the purpose became clear. For now on, I have to become more engaged with the texts I am reading. By understanding what the author is trying to say can help me by knowing what place I stand on the issue.
ReplyDeleteI have never written a college paper before, but I did write many papers in Middle School and High School. This paper was different than the papers I wrote when I was younger, mostly what I did was summarize what I had read. In this paper however, I had to discuss only one section of AnzaldĂșa’s paper and talk more about that argument more in depth. This assignment should help me a lot in later papers that I write, because I learned things like how to organize a paper in MLA format so that it looks nice. I don’t have any questions.
ReplyDeleteRegarding to the papers that I wrote before, I can say that they were close to the college level, but this was the most challenging one for me. For this paper I find it to be hard one. Coming up with good thesis, put all paragraphs together in order to complete the assignment, was very hard. Also working on the citation, the work cited page and paraphrase my thesis, it becomes difficult. According to this assignment it pushes me to where I find myself using critical thinking. This assignment helped me a lot on how to write a persuasive analysis essay. I think it will help me a lot for my future paper when I will be writing from some one point of view.
ReplyDeleteIf the summary paper from Unit I counts then yes. This assignment took what was taught in Unit I and added some new details and guidelines to follow. I think I will use the skills I learned in Unit II in my future essays because each unit I am being taught are like stepping stones. You have to have each stone in place in order for it to be smooth and to not be missing any. I think I understood what I needed to do for that essay so no questions here.
ReplyDeleteI have written a college paper before. The one I wrote before was not a non-research argument paper. Anzaldua essay was much more difficult compare to the one I wrote before. It was time consuming because I read over and over again before I got the gist of the essay. I’m glad you gave us the tools to understand the essay much better. The skills will be useful in my future paper and in my career. I’m not sure about my Citations and my conclusion. I think my conclusion is scrawny.
ReplyDeleteYes I have written a college paper, but this one was only my second one done. This assignment compares because it was the first paper I had to do where I had to argue about another text. I will use the skills I learned from unit II in my other essays by remembering the rules about commas, and using the skills about interpreting other work and using it in my own writing. I think I understood the assignment enough and did pretty well so I don't have any further questions.
