Unit IV Reflection

Directions: You have now officially become awesome. Congratulations! Remember when you couldn't write a research paper? Think about how far you have come! But...think about that for your in-class Final.....

For now, summarize what you learned during Unit 4: from developing a topic to researching that topic to synthesizing your research for that topic into the paper you just wrote, explain what was most helpful and what you wish you knew more about. 100-200 words.

Due before midnight on December 6th (so, by 11:59 p.m. on December 6th).

  1. What I have learned in unit 4 is that in order to write a constructive thesis in a short amount of time, it is easier to pick a topic that doesn’t take weeks of research. Trying to cram 3 weeks’ worth of research into five days does not work for me. I started off my research topic about obsessions but that fell through because I had no clear evidence for my topic question. So I started my new topic the day before the first synthesis project was do. I didn’t mind because my new topic I feel is a joy to read and it is not boring. However, I wish I knew how to expand my writing but being more clearly. I fear that some of my sentences may drag.

  2. I learned in unit 4 that if you have to pick your own topic, you should pick one that you want to know more about. Picking a topic that you are interested in learning about will make it easier to write your paper. I learned that when researching a topic, you really need to look into the sources you are using to make sure they are credible and relevant. If the source is written by someone who isn’t well educated in your topic, you may not be able to trust what they are saying. If the source barely mentions your topic or is really outdated, it’s probably not relevant. The most helpful thing to me in this unit was the synthesis assignment. It really helped me organize my thoughts and my facts. I’m still having trouble with citations but I guess it just takes practice.

  3. In unit 4 I learned that synthesis papers are kind of confusing and hard to write. It was hard for me to find a topic that I was interested in and I think that why I struggled so much with writing this paper. i learned a lot about what I was researching but I just didn’t understand how to put it together and form a paper. But once I cut out my sentences from the synthesis assignment and reorganized them to fit better, I was more confident in my writing. I wish that I could be able to learn how to put it together to create the perfect paper but I understand that it will come to me the more I write.

  4. In Unit 4 I learned how to evaluate sources properly. I never knew how to properly check my sources for research papers. If we did not go over this unit most likely my sources would not have been credible. This unit was the most useful for me since I'm sure I will have many more research papers to write in my near future. I did struggle with finding a topic but having an academic question led me to a different point of view. I enjoyed writing a research paper because I found out more information than I intended on my topic.

  5. I learned quite a bit writing this paper. I am still struggling with citing sources a bit and the works cited page itself, but this unit led me to a better handle on it than before we started. I also learned how to better integrate my quotations and how to use 2 different sources per paragraph. The assignment before the paper was also very beneficial because it showed me a better way to organize.

  6. In Unit 4 I learned that a topic does not need to be too technical just a topic that hits home or a topic that interests you. The research was something a little different trying to make sure what I found was relevant and concise to the topic that was chosen. The most helpful part to writing this paper was the synthesis assignment because it helped me lay out my paper. I think the hardest thing was trying to find a topic and also the research that coincides with it. I wish that I knew how to make sure I did the proper research for my topic.

  7. It was hard and confusing to determine topic on your own. I struggled when I was trying to pick my own topic because I could not find any topic that I was interested in. Synthesis paper is s the hardest paper have ever written, it was the first research paper I wrote in MLA style. I learned that I have to find a credible and relevant source for my paper. This unit is helpful to me because I learnt how to organize my paper in order and how to put my taught together when writing a research paper. I’m sure that I will be able to use this skills to write my other research paper in college. After I was done with this paper I have more confident in myself that I will be able to write any paper in college.
